The following link has sound. I found it difficult to incorporate sound with Flash. I edited in Audacity and then imported the file into Flash, but I guess that with compression, the audio changed.

This week, I wanted to explore telling history through sound. I chose the Roma/Romani as my subject, and mixed pre-recorded music, downloaded electronic sounds, and recorded live sounds (footwork and palmas) to chronicle their 1,000 year history and the various influences (African, American, Asian, and European). I had trouble uploading my Audacity file, […]

One attempted uppercut, then an agile bob and weave in response, which is met quickly with a series of swift jabs, and on and on. The debate between Shirky and McCloud was a lively one, and the urgency radiating from McCloud’s rebuttal makes for entertaining reading. Given that BitPass did eventually rethink its supposed refusal […]

I was fortunate to speak on a panel at the 2007 Southeastern MMUF Conference this weekend. MMUF stands for Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program and is intended for undergraduates planning on careers in academia. It was held at Spelman College in Atlanta and everyone had a blast! In Understanding Media, Marshal McLuhan sees art as having the unique ability to voice hidden truths. Synthesizing the responsibilities of the sentinel, soothsayer, Socratic revolutionary and savior, McLuhan’s notion of art exposes certain realities and points of view within a changing society.

Our short video, titled “La Toilette”, was edited during the week of October 23rd. Since we were five people–Jain, Jong Min, Sandra, Yaminie and myself–we decided it best to take turns editing. This turned out to be a great idea and I recommend it for groups larger than 2.
Yaminie and I attended Gabe’s excellent tutorial […]

On Saturday, Oct 20th, our group (Jain, Jong Min, Sandra, Yaminie and I) decided to shoot in the Ladies’ Restroom in the basement of Tisch SOA. As you will see from some of the production pics below, we were working pretty closely at times! There were two challenges to working in this bathroom. 1) We […]

The weeks between October 9-23 were dedicated to learning how to prepare for, shoot and then edit a digital video. I was part of a big and wonderful group which included Jain, Jong Min, Sandra, Yaminie and myself. The first week (of Oct 9th) was for pre-production: i.e. thinking about where you want to shoot, the […]

During the week of October 2nd, Sandra and I made a stop-motion video using IStopMotion. We were both interested in bringing La Catrina, the famous Day of the Dead figure to life.
After brainstorming for a while, we decided to go the claymation route, so after playing around with modeling clay and wire all night, we […]
