This quilt highlights innovators in mechanics, engineering and computer technology. This quilt will function similarly to the Medicine Panel in that the user will be able to match names with inventions. Instead of a green and red led response however, a feather servo motor will indicate a “yes” or “no” answer. Also, instead of the circuitry […]

Here is a picture of the civil rights quilt. I hand stitched the stippling design in the background and added a small binding. Before showing, a layer of vinyl will be added in order that people may sign the quilt with people who they think have contributed to the field of civil rigths.

The Civil Rights Quilt will not incorporate circuitry (YIPPEE!!!), and so I only have to sew for this one. After attaching the mountains, I had to build the rocks. The rocks are made of 2 pieces of fabric, and I build them row by row. Below are pictures detailing the construction of the background.

For the Natural Sciences Quilt, I am using a Sharp GP2D120, seen here:
I want to have the Sharp GP2D120 range finder read relatively close distances (around three feet and less) and have the Lilypad use this data to turn on four tiny pager motors. The pager motors will be housed in real peanut shells […]

After finishing the squares of the Natural Sciences Quilt, I had to attach the fabric leaves, seen here:
(finished top half of top layer)
I also had to blind stitch the fabric peanuts on which my mom had embroidered the names. Since my mom embroidered the names on a single piece of fabric, I had […]

The Civil Rights Quilt will take an “old-school” approach to the notion of interactivity and will incorporate my favorite technology of all–writing. The idea is that users will be able to write the names of those who they think has contributed/is contributing to the notion of civil rights and human rights in general. In order […]

Here is a list of the materials used for the completion of my Civil Rights quilt and where I purchased them.
assorted calico fabrics; Joann (www.joann.com) and Hancock (www.hancockfabrics.com) Fabric stores
muslin (great for prototyping anything; I used it for my circuitry layer as well as the layer which I used when stitching the caduceus); Joann (www.joann.com) […]
