The more I read books on the transformation of media available until that point in time, and the introduction of “new” media, the more it resembles humanity’s profound fear of new, specially different things; and how these “new things” will corrupt the already known and established order. It reminded me of the Myth of the Cavern. And it makes me wonder how little we have moved forward in all the centuries that had passed since.
I believe one of the core issues people are scared of is that these practices somehow confine human’s imagination. As has already been discussed by various author’s, these new ways of expressing ourselves, had as a matter of fact, enhanced imagination. In a way, they are making us all think of new possibilities. Even more importantly, they are allowing us to build over other’s people thoughts, to be able to achieve our own ways of expression by, through and thanks to other’s ideas.
Finally, current democratization (if this word is at all appropriate) of accessibility to each of these new forms - even if the do not pay copyrights in some countries - is making these creativity and imagination, move faster than ever before.
