Syllabus
This is a production course that explores the possibilities of conveying a live presence across a distance. The class will begin with a sampling of tools for sending signals across a network. These tools come from areas such as physical computing, telephony, TCP/IP networking and A/V devices. Then each week a theme will be presented and students will be expected to develop a small written proposal for a telepresence project. Over the course of 9 weeks each student will also be expected to learn to employ some of the tools presented to build two ideas into prototypes. Physical Computing, ICM and Comm Lab are all prerequisites. The final part of the semester will allow students to develop one of their ideas further in to a final project.
