Classroom Set Up

Someone from the technical staff will be assigned to make sure your classroom computers are set up before each class. Only the technical staff is allowed to install software, plug-ins, special drivers.

All requests, questions, concerns or problems should be e-mailed to itp.helpdesk@nyu.edu.

Before Your First Class:

Please send us a list of software, plug-ins, and special equipment that will need to be available for use during your class. Please include what the students will need access to during the course of the semester. If you have a week-by-week breakdown of your needs feel free to include that as well.

24-hours Before Each Class:

E-mail requests for anything particular that you want to make sure will work on your classroom computer. DO NOT assume that because it worked last week that it will work this week. If you do not let us know your needs until 5 minutes before your class begins we cannot guarantee that that particular program/plug-in/equipment will be set up in time for you to use it in your class. In addition, with enough advance notice we may be able to advise you of any potential problems and suggest alternatives before your class begins.

Student Accounts on ITP Servers:

If all of your students are going to need an account on one of the following, then please let us know what is needed and when you will need it by. Once registration is closed, we can get a list of all the students registered for the class and set up these accounts. All students will already have accounts on itp.nyu.edu. Additional accounts can be set up for:
  • QuickTime Streaming Server
  • Flash Media Server
  • TOMCAT/Java Servlet Server
  • MySQL Database

Maintenance Mondays:

General maintenance will be done on the Lab and Classroom computers every Monday morning. Part of standard maintenance is to remove any files and folders that have been added to the computers by students and faculty. If there is something on the machine that needs to be there for your next class please e-mail itp.helpdesk@nyu.edu with that information. A folder named "Do Not Delete" is unlikely to get noticed by the person assigned to cleaning that machine. A better place to store data will be on the File Sharing Server. This will be cleaned periodically, but not as often as the Lab and Classroom computers.
