* For NYU and ITP accounts, your password is for your use only. Do not share it with anyone, not even an "official" helpdesk-type person. It should be kept entirely confidential.
* You should also familiarize yourself with [[http://www.nyu.edu/its/policies/respon.html | Responsibilities of all NYU Computer & Network Users]] and http://www.nyu.edu/its/policies/ | NYU's ITS Policies]] in general.
* If you're working on a group project and need everyone in the group to be able to write to a directory on itp.nyu.edu, then make the directory group writable. If you need help with this feel free to ask.
* Nancy's Soapbox: Do NOT ever send passwords in e-mail. E-mail travels the network and is stored in plain text. It is much too easy for packet sniffers to find passwords in e-mails. If you receive a password through e-mail you should change that password immediately.
* A warning (maybe): I've recently been told that some applications act "flacky" when there is a period(.) in the password. If you're having problem with, say, WS-FTP and there's a period in your password, try changing your password to one without a period.
