Job Responsibilities



There are several key responsibilities that each ERA is required to meet:

Maintaining the integrity of the checkout systems

  • Keeping accurate, neat and clear records
  • Off-Floor Checkouts are correctly data-entered with equipment identifiers and any missing items from a kit
  • Ensuring that students sign the printed record clearly
  • Making sure to check Off-Floor checkins are done both in the DB and in the paper record
  • Logging On-Floor checkouts neatly and clearly
  • Informing Rob of any overdue checkouts

Proactive maintenance of the Equipment Room

  • Cables are neatly hung or are nearly tied and in the appropriate buckets
  • Equipment is kept in the appropriate spot
  • The desk area is clear and workable for the next shift
  • Personal belongings are not left in the Equipment Room
  • No equipment is on the floor

Proactive maintenance of the integrity of the equipment kits

  • Check the kits on their leaving and coming back to the ER for all the listed contents
  • Testing [if you are familiar enough to do so] equipment reported broken
  • Reporting any complaints of equipment not working to Rob
  • Reporting any lost or broken equipment or kit contents to Rob

Safety and Security

  • Conducting a quick round on the floor to make ensure the following:
    • That lab policy is followed [Post Production, 3D, Shop Areas]: No food, beverages or cell usage. EVER.
    • That classrooms not being used are locked with the lights off
    • That ITP equipment is not left unattended [unattended ITP equipment should always be collected and brought to the ER]
    • Ensuring only ITP students are on the floor, using the community resources
    • Ensuring Shop Safety [goggles and ear protection]
    • Enforcing the Power Tools Room's closing time of 11:00 PM
    • Assisting in the response to student health or security emergencies

Improvements and Support

  • Assist in researching new equipment for possible purchase or aquisition
  • Assist in developing tutorials for equipment usage
  • Assist in Gallery setup

Show Production

  • As it relates to equipment, space, promotionals, signage, etc., assist in end of semester events production

Time Management

  • Be on time
    • If late and there is double coverage, call the Equipment Room first: 212-998-1893. If the ER is not answering, call my Rob's cell
    • If you anticipate a conflict that will require you to be a little late, just inform Rob in advance
    • If you cannot make your shift do to an emergency or sickness, call Rob's cell
    • If you know in advance that you cannot work a shift or part of a shift, please do the following:
      • Email the details of the situation in advance to rob: rob.ryan@nyu.edu [off list]
      • Coverage will be obtained through one of the dedicated Subs
      • If coverage cannot be obtained by a Sub, I'll authorize a shift swap, in which case you can then let the ER List know by sending it an email

Caveats

  • You will not be micromanaged to death
  • If you are chronically late or are not meeting the above responsibilities proactively you will be warned
  • If after the warning the problems have not been corrected, you will be placed on probation and/or relieved of your duties temporarily
  • If you miss a shift without having following the above directions, you can expect you will be relieved of the job
