Thesis Yearbook How-To

Back to Requirements

DOWNLOAD THESE INSTRUCTIONS .PDF

Due Date: Week of April 14th

Overview

The Thesis book is in two parts: the book and the website. The purpose of the printed book is:

  1. To interest a reader in your project so that s/he will go to the website to find out more. (You might think of this as an advertisement to lure people to your website.)
  2. To have an easy reference to all the thesis projects of this year.
  3. A quasi-yearbook.

Each student will receive one two-page spread. The project pages should be focused on process, we understand that the final product isn't ready yet.

The website will be the permanent record of your whole thesis: your paper will be uploaded there, also the video of your thesis presentation.

There are a few templates to choose from... They are in InDesign. The templates are available here: Templates .ZIP (examples below)

Each student must submit:

  • Title of Project
  • Student Name
  • Elevator Statement (20-40 words)
  • Project Description (75 - 100 words)
  • 1 - 3 images (300dpi)
  • Photo captions (two lines max)
  • Project Taxonomy - three keywords/phrases describing project (i.e. sustainable tech, arduino, mobile, etc.)

Submitting Your Spread

  1. Download Templates.ZIP
  2. Pick one InDesign template and enter your photos and text according to its instructions
  3. Upload your completed template to the Projects Database here: http://itp.nyu.edu/projects. Make sure your thesis is associated with the Thesis Spring 2011 venue in the database!

If you have questions about how to arrange your work in the template, email carlin.wragg@nyu.edu.
