ITP THESIS WEEK 2013

TECHNICAL SETUP FOR PRESENTATIONS

updated 5/6/13 -rob

PRESENTATION STATION

We will be using the Japanese Room for presentations.

Thesis week is meant to primarily be a presentation of your thesis work not a demonstration. Students are encouraged to keep the presentation screen-based.

The presentation station is simply a mac laptop connected to the projectors and speakers. There is one main projector but from that signal we split it out to a couple other projectors in the room so that everyone can see. There will be additional clip lighting available and an ip documentation camera so you can show small objects, devices, etc on the projector through a web browser. We will have the address for that camera here soon.

Alternatively you can plug in your own laptop. If you do this - be prepared! there is only a couple minutes between each presentation.

If you are using the in-house laptop for anything but web slides, please preload your presentation in advance of your class presentation. You will have access to the presentation classroom earlier in the day, as well as from 9pm of the preceding evening.

Technical Specs for Main Projector:

Projector: Infocus Short Throw IN124ST
Native Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Supported Aspect Ratios: 4:3, 16:9
Native Resolution: XGA (1024x768)
Supported Resolution: WUXGA (1920 x 1200)

Advice:

Preload your presentation on the in-house laptop the morning or night before your presentations. There will be a folder on the desktop named with the time block you are presenting in.
Work in 1920 x 1200 if your laptop supports it. If it doesn't, stick to a 16:9 ratio like 1360x768 or a 4:3 ratio like 1024x768.

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT NEED

Some of you will need to install work inside or outside the Japanese Room. We will clear the space outside the J-Room for bigger installations, but... again, field trips are HIGHLY DISCOURAGED. If you need extra equipment or space for your thesis presentation please contact itp.helpdesk@nyu.edu and set up an appointment to talk with Rob about it.

WEBSITE

We are updating our website. Thesis Week information for the general public will be located at http://itp.nyu.edu/thesis/. This page will allow visitors to see a schedule of all student presentations as well as search by student name, thesis class, project title, and keywords. Please forward this url to anyone and everyone you wish to have see your presentation. We will be inviting members from the extended ITP community to view the webcast. Also note that ITP faculty will attend all presentations.

WEBCAST

We will be webcasting all thesis presentations at http://itp.nyu.edu/thesis/audience.html.

Don't worry about the technical setup of the stream... we'll worry about that for you.

VIDEO LOUNGE

Aside from the webcast, we will also be running video feeds into the lounge to accommodate any overflow from the classrooms.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact Rob or Nancy or your Thesis Instructor.
