Dead Technology
Super 8
Cameras: check out your local flea market or eBay. DuAll is another option but it can be a bit pricey. There's a guy in Queens, Abdul Setoua (917.204.6755). He is a wiz at repairs & also might be able to hook you up with a camera.
Film stock can be purchased directly from Kodak or if you want to keep it in the neighborhood check out Pac Lab. Make sure to get your student discount.
Film Processing: Pac Lab is the closest.
Film Transfer: Telecine is the best but super expensive. For low cost lab its back to Pac Lab. For comperable prices but artist love & care check out get your trnsfer done by Tim Main in Williamsburg. If you're feeling the money squeeze set up a projector & video camera & diy your transfer.
Holga
Holgas are plastic medium format still cameras that cost about $25. Their fancy older sister Diana is also worth checking out. These cameras are loved for their imperfections - light leaks, soft focus & more. Lomography has lot's of good resources and products in this world.
Developing: there are a bunch of options around ITP. Some favorites include Duggal (student discount!) on 23rd.
Purchasing: Many camera stores around here stock them, but Calumet (22nd St.) and Adorama (18th St.) both have cameras, film and a few accessories in stock most of the time.
