NYU COMMENCEMENT INFO FOR PARTICIPATING GRADUATES
New York University’s 2006 Commencement ceremony will be held on
Thursday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Washington Square
Park RAIN or SHINE!
Procession
Participating graduates should arrive by 8:30 a.m. at 111 2nd Avenue,
where volunteers will be stationed to assist you with enrobing and
lining up. Coffee, juice, muffins and pastries will be served in the
second floor Normandy room.
At 8:45 a.m. Dean Campbell will ring in the start of Commencement and
give a brief speech.
At approximately 8:50 a.m. graduates will begin lining up outside 111
2nd Avenue for the procession to the staging area. TSOA “inflatable
bam-bam sticks” will be distributed to participating graduates.
The procession to the staging area will begin at 8:55 a.m., and
proceed west on 6th street, then south on Cooper Square, west on 4th
street, north on Broadway, and finally west on Washington Place. The
TSOA procession should arrive at the Washington Place staging area
between Mercer Street and Greene Street around 9:10 a.m.
At around 9:15 a.m., we will begin the procession into Washington
Square Park.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY BAGS, FOOD, BEVERAGES, OR ANY POSSESSIONS
YOU CANNOT CARRY WITH YOU THROUGH THE PROCESSIONAL. SECURITY
GUARDS WILL BE POSTED AT THE ENTRANCES OF THE PARK TO CHECK ALL BAGS,
AND CONFISCATE FOOD OR BEVERAGES FROM ANYONE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER WITH
THEM. The bottom line is please do not bring any bags, food, or
beverages with you, as you will only hold up the procession into the
park.
Please remember that you MUST bring your candidate’s ticket, and your
ACADEMIC ATTIRE with you. YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THE EVENT UNLESS
YOU ARE DRESSED IN NYU ACADEMIC ATTIRE (CAP, GOWN, AND MASTER’S HOOD).
Tickets
All candidates received 2 tickets for the park, and 2 tickets for TV
viewing areas located around campus. As seating in Washington Square
Park is extremely limited, please inform your guests that the
University is unable to guarantee admission to the Park to all guests
bearing tickets. Seating is conducted on a first-come, first-served
basis, so tell them to arrive early. Guests will be admitted into
the Park beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Academic Attire
All students must be dressed in NYU academic attire to participate in
the ceremony.
Remember that you will NEED to return your cap, gown, and hood
IMMEDIATELY after the Commencement ceremony. Herff-Jones, Inc. will
be staffing a collection center on Greene Street, between Waverly
Place and Washington Place until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. The company
will hold you financially responsible for the cost of the attire
should you fail to return it to them.
Post-Commencement Festivities
After the ceremony, ITP will be hosting a champagne and strawberries
reception at around 12:00 p.m. on the fourth floor of 721 Broadway.
Graduates are encouraged to bring their family and friends to join us
in toasting the newest additions to the ranks of our alumni. The
Tisch School of the Arts will also be hosting a reception in the rear
lobby of 721 Broadway directly after the ceremony, so feel free to
pop in there and then come up to the ITP reception for some
strawberries and champagne.
Good luck to all our graduates! I look forward to seeing you all
bright and early tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
