Dynamic Ground is a responsive, kinetic floor constructed from deployable units. When passersby step on the clear acrylic surface, the kinetic units response independently like living organisms and shift between a contracted state to an expanded state.
Our key design principles were: Technology, Simplicity, and Modularity.
The design demonstrates how micro scale geometry creates macro scale platform. Dynamic Ground is designed as a generic modular system. Each modular unit is constructed from 7 interconnected hexagons that move in a continues circular movement, driven only by one central servo motor, which is activated by a light sensor.
Dynamic Ground is a proposal for a responsive and dynamic architectural installation for retail and residential environments. And it is a result of a continuous exploration of kinetic architectural interventions in space. Our previous project, Living Shade - an Adaptive kinetic facade, was exhibited at the ITP winter show 2008.
Dynamic Ground received rave review and media coverage on Gizmodo, Core77, Make Magazine...)
