LuminAEre is a timeline-based system for controlling DMX, an industry standard lighting protocol, within Adobe After Effects. This will allow motion graphics artists to create motion graphics and program lighting within the same creative process using After Effects' powerful keyframe animation system and expressions. I have also built a custom intelligent lighting fixture which fully optimizes this interface and work flow, merging lighting control, media server, and motion graphics into one unit.
I worked in the technical end of the Entertainment Industry for 16 years before coming to ITP. I started as a Mechanical Engineer, designing Show Action Equipment (animated props,) and special effects equipment for theme park projects in the early 1990s. This work led to work on large-format film-based scenic projections. Naturally, film-based theatrical projections became video projections some time in the mid 1990s, so I started learning motion graphics and 3D animation to create media for projections. When I moved to the East Coast in 2005, I got a job in theatrical lighting, where I learned to design DMX lighting systems, program lighting consoles, and learned about general lighting and theater practices. I want to merge all of the disciplines (lighting, projection, special effects, motion graphics, mechanical engineering,) that I've made a living doing over those years into one project, while creating something that has never been done before.
