The inspiration for this project comes from "The Great Dictator" by Chaplin (1940) – the barber scene, where Dictators Hynkel (Chaplin) and Napaloni try to gain the upper hand over one another with elevating barbers' chairs.
The theme of this comical scene has been approached in more serious conversations in social studies and behavioral sciences. Some research asserts that taller adults have higher social statues and self-esteem.
The power of self-alteration exists in the virtual reality world as it enables users to create and modify their digital self-representation. And a recent study by The Virtual Human Interaction Lab (Stanford University) shows that users that were given taller avatars performed better in
negotiations than users that were given shorter avatars.
