James A. Tunick is a programmer, artist & entrepreneur whose work merges creative technology, public spaces, & the Web. Tunick owns 2 software firms & a media arts lab in New York City.
Tunick founded StudioIMC (http://StudioIMC.com), the leading digital-out-of-home agency specializing in Interactive Outernet technologies. The firm makes software & content powering the world's 1st network of interactive movie screens, as well as stadium jumbotrons, signage networks, & Times Square billboards for clients like Sony, Verizon, Live Nation, U.S. Army, NBA, & others.
Tunick is currently CEO of the cloud software firm, Web5design (http://Web5design.com), which builds database-driven enterprise applications like CMSs, asset management systems, social platforms, & collaboration tools for clients such as the UN, NY Senate, NBC, Columbia, Teach for America, John Wiley, Asia Society, Inc Magazine, & Greenday.
Both firms are headquartered at The IMC Lab + Gallery (http://TheIMClab.com), a media gallery & R&D lab with lofts in NY's 'Silicon Alley', at 56 W 22nd St. The lab funds interdisciplinary artists, programmers, & firms making creative software & innovative apps such big data visualizations & interactive art. Notable art/tech shows include "3rd IMC Exposition" (http://IMCexpo.net), held at the lab, & "Beyond TV" held in the Spielberg Gallery at the Museum of TV & Radio in NYC.
Tunick has been published extensively, with patents pending & work featured in Rollingstone Magazine, MoMA, LA Times, NY1 News, & Discovery Channel. His work is also published in the book, Virtual Sets and Pre-Visualization for Games, Movies & the Web, by Jean-Marc Gauthier, Focal Press (2004). His software is also used in movie theaters, stadiums, Times Square, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Linz Austria, & other cities around the world.
Tunick attended Yale University as an undergraduate & he received his Masters in New Media from NYU Tisch Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP).
