Nancy D Lewis

Former Adjunct, Alumni, Former Staff, Class of 1998

Our friend and colleague, Nancy Lewis passed away on October 23, 2010.

As our tech staff guru, teacher and student at ITP, Nancy was an important member of our community for 15 years. When everyone else was freaking out, Nancy always brought a sense of calm to the problem. Instead of panicking she applied her keen intelligence to zero in on obscure bugs. Her church work and love of children's books, in particular a children's guide to programming, gave her the perspective to keep us all anchored on the human side of technology. Her Halloween/Christmas earring collection could span those seasons without repeat, and kept us all entertained.

She was born in Rochester, N.Y., on Oct. 12, 1956, to Dr. and Mrs. David H. Lewis of Penhook at Smith Mountain Lake, VA and formerly of Martinsville, VA. She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1977, where she was a member of the marching band, sang in musicals and was elected to the National Honor Society. She received a bachelor’s degree from William & Mary and two master’s degrees from New York University. She had been employed at Voter News Service, IBM and the Sci Fi Channel before coming to NYU.

Nancy had been suffering from Parkinson's Disease for the last few years. Surviving, in addition to her parents, is a brother, D. Andrew Lewis of Springfield, VA.
