CritiqueQA

Post questions here about the critique assignment

Creative Critique: Pick three examples of internet or interactive programming that interest you and create an online "review" of each example using the critical model that will be provided (you may extend the model). Each critique should be about a piece of internet television programming from a different platform (for example: one uTube video played on your PC, an interactive Tivo advertising showcase and a piece of mobile video). Be prepared to share your most interesting findings in class. In the interest of having the class do a broad range of properties, a "sign up sheet" for specific properties will be available on the class Wiki. The goal is to have a broad range of creative critiques.

So Basically:

1) Identify a specific internet property that is of interest to you.

2) Write a "critique" which evaluates its effectiveness. You might want to answer some of the following questions:

  • is this entertaining or interesting? Why?
  • who is this targeting (audience-wise)?
  • is this original?
  • what are the production values? Is it appropriate to the genre/content?
  • how does it use the medium? Is this just something that could be on TV but is being sent over the internet, or does it take advantage of the medium?

QUESTION (from Fiona): do you have any suggestions for how we can view some of these different formats in order to critique them (for example, if we don't have video ipods, or TiVo, or the DaveTV box..)? Not really other than the obvious-- ask your friends and classmates, view in a store, buy and return (I didnt say that), etc. Lets talk in class next weeka bout this and maybe I can figure somethign out-- like see if any loaner equip is avail from Verizon or Sprint or Tivo, etc. In the short term I suggest if you dont have access to alternative platforsm to choose a pc-based experience for your *first* critique and then we can see if we can figure somethign out to get better access to equipment for your next few.
