ESPNMotion

ESPN Motion is a cute li'l video player embedded in the espn.com home page. It plays brief (~2-4 minute) clips pulled from ESPN's TV content.

I watched a minute-long segment from an episode of Pardon the Interruption, a Crossfire-style sportstalk show. I'm a fan.

This experience was not as great as the flashy graphics would make you believe. The embedded viewer is only 230x170 pixels. To get a list of available programs, I had to click a button that says, "Go Big!" Wee!

A new, ESPN Motion-dedicated window opened. The viewer was now 435x325. I then browsed a list of clips and found the one I wanted to watch. After choosing it, the video played immediately without a commercial.

The video flowed pretty smoothly without any stops on my home cable connection, and the quality was good. However, I had no control over playback: fast-forwarding and rewind were disabled--a big problem when you're watching sports highlights over a stream--and even when I clicked the pause and play buttons, they were unreliable.

It's good that the clips are short and that I can easily jump to content that appeals to me; otherwise, there would be little draw.
