Tivo: Intel Commercial

I've had my Tivo for almost two years and this is the first time I actually looked at one of the ads. Part of the reason I like Tivo so much is because I get to skip the commercials. Why would I then choose to watch one? That said, the Intel commercial did grab my attention, because it offered free stuff. If I selected it, I would be entered to win $15,000 worth of Intel products.

Within the advertisement, you could either watch an Intel commercial, which was like any regular commercial you see on tv. Although, it did seem a bit longer, but I think that partly had to do with the commercial itself. It was basically a really long intro, I was waiting for something else to happen, some narrative to start playing. I guess Intel knew that people with Tivo probably were only going to click on their ad because of the free products and as such, they didn't waste any time or money on creating a special interactive ad.

As for entering the contest, I was a bit confused by it. You clicked on the "Enter to Win" and then it gave me some message about confirming my address on tivo.com. Now, that's great that Tivo doesn't require you to type in your personal information, especially when they already have it. But I was confused, because I didn't receive any confirmation that I was actually successfully entered. Did the message about visiting tivo.com mean that I had to go online to enter, because that's annoying. The personal information is already in their databases; I feel it would have been better if they had displayed my information saying we're entering you into the contest with this address, name, etc., if this isn't right please visit tivo.com to change your information.

I think the Intel commercial had the right idea by enticing people with free stuff, but I think the user interaction of entering the contest could use some work. And since I did visit the Intel ad, I would have liked to have seen a decent commercial. I think it would have made a more clear impression. People remember and talk about good commercials, they don't talk about or even remember entering contests.
