If I am asked to pick one feature of internet that I can use to produce my contents on internet, I wil definitely pick EASY ACCESSIBILITY, and REAL-TIME FEED.
Then, as one of Internet TV's contents that features these characteristics, I decided to pick one of my favorite contents on web: Sports Contents.
Many people watch sports highlights on TV. However, for people who don't own a TV, or can't afford to have cable to only watch Sports Contents, it's not an easy choice to have a TV and a cable subscription.
Moreover, these sports contents are very dynamic, and need to be real-time as sports are really curious about the immediate news and commentators' remarks about different events.
This is the reason why I feel that sports contents are very fit and useful for the medium on Internet TV. People get access to these contents while at work (as we all have access to internet, but not cable TV), and these contents are short, but really focused on the subjects of users' interests.
Indeed, I usually go to espn.com, mlb.com, nhl.com, and nba.com whenever I can (probably every hour). Depending on the current active sport season, I go to the appropriate site, and as NBA is current active, nba.com is one of the site I go often nowadays.
In terms of the contents present in this site, it's either hightlights of different games (which they are categorized within NBA TV Broadband), or different commentator's critiques about a game or different issues (TNT Overtime). I used to watch TNT alot to listent to different dicussion between players and commentators. However, instead of watching on TV, I watch it from this site. Moreover, I am even subscribed to RSS feed of this site so I can constantly get real-time update.
Obviously, these contents are not first created for internet TV contents, and they are the acutal contents that are shown on TV. However, what I like about these contents are that they are filterd. What I mean through this word "filterd" is that the contents really reflect what the title of content mean, and these contents are short and precise. Sometimes when I watch TV, I often get bored when they are talking about something I am not interested.
Moreover, these contents are really attractive to all sports fans. Unlike drame or different show, the quality of contents are often guaranteed in the world of sports. This is the reason why these contents are entertaining and interesting.
From Content Producer's points of view, the following list define the pros and cons of this type of sports contents:
PROS:
- Very appropriate to the medium of Internet (Web Page, Dynamic GUI, and alot of possible features due to Internet)
- The actual contents are already proven contents (Whatever you put before or after the contents, the actual contents are good)
- Sports Contents are always original and new.
CONS:
- Copyright Issues are very difficult. Hard to use or find any free contents
- Due to different sports' rule, advertisements are hard. (However, yahoo.com and other sites are starting to feature these contents...)
- Production values...Too Hard to define
