'Show up at 11 PM to clean the power tool shop.' Activity in the main shop should be wrapping up by 11:30, so that people working in there can help you clean up. So with any luck, you can be out by 11:45. Read here for the details.
The shop is open to the general ITP community, and when no one is there, all equipment should be put away and the shop left neat. If you are the only person in the shop and you leave, put all tools away whether you took them out or not, and clean up.
When you are finished with a tool, put it away and clean up your area. This includes soldering irons, soldering aids, all hand tools, and any mess made by your tool.
Students using the shop are assigned to clean the shop at closing time twice per semester. When the student whose assigned day it is asks you to clean up, be courteous and help them to do so.
Shop cleanup starts one half hour before closing time. At that time, stop working on your project and start cleaning up. Help the person who is responsible for cleaning sign-off, don't just make them do it all.
If you are staying later under staff supervision, you are assuming responsibility for shop cleaning. Give your name to the person who is assigned to cleaning that night so they can pass it on to Tom and the physical computing resident team.
If the shop is messy in the morning and you were responsible for cleaning the night before, it will affect your shop priveleges.

PAY ATTENTION to what you've got, and where you put it.
TAKE TIME when setting up and cleaning up to note everything you took out of your bin, and are putting back. Write it down if you're forgetful.
USE YOUR LOCKER if it's valuable.
WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER. Take note of what your classmates are doing when you're in the lab together. Talk to each other. Sometimes the simple act of conversation helps you remember what someone else was doing when you talked, and you can help them remember what they misplaced.
TAKE THINGS HOME if you're not using them. There is limited storage space, so 'please store only what's absolutely necessary' for projects you're currently working on. Anyone taking more space than is appropriate will be asked to clear off space for others. This means ALL projects, cardboard, etc. which you've already shown in class, or won't touch until the end of the semester.

HAVE RESPECT FOR ONE ANOTHER. Don't take anything that's not yours. If you borrow, ask before borrowing, and leave a note saying thanks, so the person doesn't forget and think it's stolen. Help each other remember where things are, and watch out for each other's stuff. Treat everyone's project and materials with the care you treat your own.

Note: general shop activity should stop at least half an hour before closing, to allow proper cleanup time. The shop is open the same hours as the floor. However, the power tool area closes at 11 PM each night, for safety reasons. Clean UpAll shop users are expected to work two cleanup days per semester, and to help clean the shop when they use it. Show up at 11 PM to clean the power tool shop. Activity in the main shop should be wrapping up by 11:30, so that people working in there can help you clean up. So with any luck, you can be out by 11:45. Read here for the details. Added lines 20-33:
SafetyChanged lines 36-43 from:
Every person who plans to use the shop is required by law to attend a safety session. This includes First and second-year students. We'll be holding these every weekday for the first three weeks of the semester. There will be a sign-up sheet for these sessions on the whiteboard nearest the power tool in the shop. We can accommodate up to 12 people per session, so please sign up in advance. If you're using the shop and we know you haven't attended a safety session, you will have to stop working. Physical Computing ResidentsThe physical computing residents this year are Todd Holoubek and Carlyn Maw. Their hours are posted on the main page. Storageto:
ALL STUDENTS MUST ATTEND A SAFETY SEMINAR ONCE A YEAR AND TAKE THE SAFETY QUIZ IN ORDER TO USE THE SHOP. This is required by law. To repeat, this mean every person who plans to use the shop is required by law to attend a safety session, including first, second and whatever-year ITP students and outside students as well. ITP Safety RulesWEAR SAFETY GOGGLES WHEN YOU USE POWER TOOLS. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. ENFORCEMENT OF THIS RULE WILL BE UNCOMPROMISING AND ABSOLUTE. Hand ToolsAll handhelf power tools for the shop are kept in the equipment room. Because we had a number of important tools disappear in recent years, it's become necessary to make all tools checkout items. You will need to keep track of what you check out, and check back in all items when you leave. July 07, 2006, at 06:06 PM

StorageThe rolling storage racks are available for student storage. If you store anything on the shelves, please label it with your name, email, and a number we can reach you at. Use the YELLOW gaffer's tape, available in the tape drawer. Anything with last year's ORANGE tape, or anything unlabeled, will be thrown out. There is limited storage space, so please store only what's absolutely necessary for projects you're currently working on. Anyone taking more space than is appropriate will be asked to clear off space for others. The shelves are cleared off every semester, so please take things home when you're done with them to save yourself a big load at the end. July 07, 2006, at 06:05 PM
