LocationProject: LocationProject

Here is a link to the project brief. This covers all three major projects.

Question: Does improvement of interaction between the people and the space itself count? Or does it have to be improvement of interaction between people in the space?

gilad

What do you have in mind?

We have an idea for a tool that could make the experience at a certain space much more efficient. It will increase the interaction between the users in the space, and the space itself, but will not connect between people in the space, thus no increase in interaction between the people in the space. Is that a bit clearer?

gilad

Sounds like it should be fine.

We've chosen to observe the library. We noticed that the interaction experience created within the library was focused on minimizing direct interaction between people and creating a space to allow for contemplation. Before we move ahead any further I just wanted to check in with this Question:
Does actively avoiding interaction count as a form of interaction? Given the premise that interaction involves listening, thinking and responding I was thinking that it requires all of these steps to effectively stay out of each other's way. But I'm curious to your response to this line of thinking.

Interaction in a library isn't necessarily about socialization, it's about research. The main activities there don't have to involve people. IN some cases they might be aided by interaction with people (for example, ask a librarian, that's what they're there for!) and in other cases, it might not (will the creepy guy that hangs out by the card catalog ever leave so I can get at it?). Don't just think about conversation when you think about this interaction, think about what will make research (the main activity) go better.

Are we all presenting in class? If so, how much time does each group have to present. We're planning a little observation demo.
toshi

about 5-7 mins. each group.

Alice, Nick, and I (Christian) are posting our findings and thoughts in progress on my ITP blog. I'm trying to get things categorized, but I'm having a little trouble with MovableType. I'll update the link straight to all Location Project Entries when I figure it out.
