My current favorite sensor: the scanners that read EZ-Pass tags on the highways fast enough to let you drive through the tolls at 25 m.p.h. Yes, it might seem reckless to allow people to squeeze their cars through massive concrete abutments at faster and faster speeds, but progress is progress.
