Presentation, The Politics of Public Space – Chapter 2 February 2, 2009
Posted by cdh263 in : 3_Public space, Presentations , trackbackIn his essay, ‘The Political Economy of Public Space’ in “The Politics of Public Space” (Setha Low and Neil Smith, editors), David Harvey uses Paris, in its 19th Century redesign, to make points about the relationship between public space and the public sphere. This SLIDE SHOW gives an overview of his essay and infers a design imperative from his conclusions. Because public space is created within the context of the public sphere (the place, the times, the people), design influences only to the degree it transforms the nature of transactions within that space.
