Too Fast For Tracks is a new toy that allows users to build and rapidly change a vehicles course By placing customizable infrared beacons about a space, the user can guide a vehicle around obstacles. This rapid prototyping like structure encourages its user to explore their environment.

Audience:Although Too Fast For Tracks was designed with children ages 7-12 in mind, the racing trains will have some appeal to adults.
User Scenario:The user predetermines the path that they would like their vehicle to follow and then begins to place beacons along the route at points where the Racing Train must alter its path. The Racing Train is turned on and placed at the beginning of the route while the user watches to see if their goal has been met. Multiple trains can run on the same channel or on separate channels so they may be raced around a play space.
Technical System Description:The Racing Trains system guides a vehicle around a predetermined path using infrared beacons. As the Train approaches the beacon an IR message is sent to the train instructing it on how to behave and which sounds to play. The current set of beacons can be altered to send messages that include stop, turn left, turn right, S-turn left, S-turn right, U turn.
