| "Networked Flowers" is a personal communication device for sending someone digital blooms. |
| "Networked Flowers" is a platform for digitally communicating gestures and emotions. It is a device you would give to someone. You would send them different "blooms" or "bouquets," remotely, by cell phone or web. The flower, composed of LEDs, would light up according to the "floral arrangement" that was sent. |
| |
| Background: | Flowers are our inspiration and metaphor for this project. We already have the convention of sending flowers, a non-verbal form of communication. It is a fairly universal gesture, that is personal, and capable of meaning many different things. |
| Audience: | Anyone. |
| User Scenario: | A person gives someone a bouquet, the physical device. Remotely, the sender can send the recipient different messages or "blooms" via the web or cell phone. The recipient receives a message alert. Upon touching the base of the flower, the recipient can actively enjoy the flower, and sees the full message played out. The messages are in the form of different lighting animations. After the flower has bloomed, the sender receives an acknowledgment, informing, via web or email, them the digital flower was delivered and received. |
| Technical System Description: | This project is comprised of light sculpture of 25 LEDs and a touch sensor controlled by a PIC, which connects to the network (i.e. web and cell phone). |
| Project References, Research and Literature: | We were inspired by some of the readings from the Networked Objects class on context awareness, and the work of our classmates. |
