rEvolve is a online application for geographically separated artists to share their work and create collaborative peices in a playful environment.
This game is an attempt to create a playground, a forum for artists and \"creative\" people. It draws inspiration from the traditional format of Exquisite Corpse or ExCadaver. An image is posted with the understanding that it will be relinquished to the online community of artists who are part of rEvolve. Other users alter the image resulting in beautiful collaborative pieces. This is a playful environment that encourages experimentation and risk taking. This form of communication is rampant among the art community where \"play\" is inherent to their experimental minds and the idea of meeting other artists, styles and potential collaborations are exciting.

Personal Statement:This project, for Sean Kelly\'s Rapid Prototyping for Social Software Class was developed by Arianna Orland, Sonali Sridhar, and Jennnifer Kirchherr.
Background:In its infancy rEvolve started out as an online game of Exquisite Corpse, where artists would not be able to see the previous contribution to any image and the final collaborative effort would be revealed when the page was filled. After doing some user testing, it became clear to us that our potential users wanted to be able to view the previous artists work. We decided to create an application where artist would be able to alter one anothers work to create a collaborative image.

Audience:rEvolve is meant to be used by artists, illustrators, sculptors, photographers, painters, and anyone who is interested in art. Because all works are collaborative, a muliplicity of users yeilds the most interesting results.
User Scenario:Users login to rEvolve and choose a project from a list of titles. They can then download the most recent iteration of the image to thier desktop and are free to print it out. At this point the artist alters the image in any way they wish through any medium they wish. The image can then be either scanned or photographed and uploaded back into the application where it will be added to the string of images from which it was taken.
Technical System Description:To play rEvolve a user needs a computer with internet access, and either a scanner or digital camera. Users will make thier art in the real world and share it through the media of the internet. To display the resulting collaborative art, we will unhook the application from the web and print out hard copies of the images that can then be displayed on a wall, in a more traditional \'gallery\' setup.
Project References, Research and Literature:Here are some other website that facilitate this type of artistic collaboration.

Conclusions:rEvolve is still in its infancy. In its current state the game is a working database and framework while we build out the container and interface for it in the next 10 days, we continue to user test and improve the experience of the application and hope it develops into a robust network of geographically separated artists that will work together to create interesting collaborative works of art.
