Control_Room_813 is an istallation designed displace traditional relationships of mediated communication.

The refiguring of everyday objects, such as the Telephone, Typewriter,is to expose their control senses and provoke self reflection through the broken mirror of technology.

Personal Statement:To design is 1.a. to conceive or fashion in the mind; invent

b. To formulate a plan for; devise. The question invoked by Benthamıs design is always one of absence, not presence; if there was no guard in the mirrored-glass central tower, would the prisoners continue to behave?
Background:As Power is a multifaceted sword, so too is Control. If a Telephone, for example, is used as a means of control, it too can be controlled, harnessed. If one answers the call, as so many have, then what happens next? Who is there? What methods of design are always already in place, and how transparent have they become? To open the prosthesis, expose it, would be to defeat design, to perform anti-design in this sense. As any move against, it would cause a recoil, a re-design, to prevent such an act. But, if, for a moment, we were exposed to the control that is implicit within the fashioning of the mind, would we recoil as well, like wounded dogs?

The question of the sensation of being controlled is a critical one. If the current model of the tower-without-guard is the form by which social bodies self-regulate, then what is the sense of this regulation? Is it a sixth sense, or sevent, the control sense? What is the sense of being watched? Is it uncanny? Or is it fear? Or both?
Audience:Those who control, those who like to be controlled.
User Scenario:Approach, reach out and touch someone, write a message.

The user has 2 methods of interacting. A red telephone and a red typewriter.

A telephone may be dialed from the user\'s phone. Once answered, there is a 3 way call between videos on the monitor and the audio from the videos through in the phone.

The typewriter works as a normal typewriter, but also sends emails at the press of the \'Send\' button. These emails are spoken by a bird. There is no monitor. Only the paper and the speech.
Technical System Description:Telephone tapped with video editable by push button.

Olivetti typewriter that sends emails that are spoken back to you.
Project References, Research and Literature:Edison, Bentham, Kittler, Freud, Electronic Voice Phenomena, Burroughs, Gilliam\'s Brazil, Orwell, Huxley, Chris Marker.
Conclusions:The Control Sense is to design control, to control design, to fashion models of desires.
