Description
While the viewer is traditionally presented with finished art, this piece attempts to challenge the relationship between the art and the viewer. By positioning the viewers in two chairs facing the canvas, they trigger and control the painting on the canvas. Thus, the piece attempts to question the line between creation and reception.
Personal Statement
Having explored various generative methods and art, through out the course of the semester, I created this piece to challenge definitions. I was intrigued by the thought of combining "traditional" art with generative methods, realized through mechanical components, and thus wanted to question the role of the creator and the viewer.
Background
This piece is a product of the Living Art class. It is based on the discussions we had on generative art, reactive art, generative methods and many other topics.
Audience
Any person who would sit in front of a painting.
User Scenario
The piece consists of two chairs placed in front of a canvas and paintbrush. When the chairs are empty, there are no actions and the canvas can be viewed at its current state. However, once the viewer takes a seat he/she triggers the movement of the paintbrush. Additionally the canvas moves according to the viewers posture on the chair and the actions on the second chair, allowing it to move along the X and Y-Axis and rotate.
Implementation
The piece consists of two chairs a paintbrush and a moving canvas.
