grass grows from the middle

Shlomit Lehavi, Michael Chladil

We wish to create a musical field which imitates the feeling of moving through stalks of wheat. As the user moves through the field, different music patches will be played.

Grass Grows from the Middle Concept
Description
User Scenario
A participant walks up a gentle incline onto the surface of the field where s/he encounters shoulder-high stalks. As the participant enters the field and pushes through the stalks, sound samples play from speakers mounted in the installation. As the stalks bend, the pitch of the sound samples are bend. The field offers both tactile and auditory feedback corresponding to the participant's movement within it. The participant can play the sound field like a disc jockey. Once a participant leaves the field, another may enter.
