Description
The "Interactive Cake" is intended to increase the enjoyment of significant moments in people's lives such as birthdays and weddings. I designed this cake with my baby and friend in mind. The birthday and wedding cakes need the user's input to turn on and blow out the LED candles. At the end of the user's experience, he or she will hear the greeting messages accompanied by music.
Personal Statement
The concept of the project “Happy Birthday” is that the child will enjoy reenacting a birthday party by assembling many pieces of cake blocks. The 3 dimensional cake blocks will help the child to develop sense of structure and their power of reasoning. Also, the child learns about the process of building blocks by seeing and listening to different feedbacks when the child completes each level.
Background
Kids enjoy birthday parties because they become the center of attention, get lots of presents and receive applause when they blow out the candles on their cake. So, they want to continuously relive the birthday situation when they are playing. Fisher Price has a birthday party toy based on “Dora the Explorer” but the toy is simple, small and too focused on serving pieces of cake to other people. The most exciting moment of the birthday party is blowing out the candles and receiving applause and presents. For this reason, the project “Happy Birthday” will allow kids to enjoy that exciting moment over and over again.
Audience
Birthday Cake : 3~5 years old kids
Wedding Cake : bride and groom
User Scenario
Birthday Cake:
1. When a child completes assembling the cake blocks, the child can light the LED candles and listen to the traditional Happy Birthday song.
2. When the child blows out candles, the LEDs are turned off and the child hears a cerebratory message such as "Happy Birthday" and applause sounds.

Wedding Cake:
1. When the bride and the groom push the buttons on the three-layer cake, the small bride and groom figures on the top of the cake get close to each other until they kiss.
2. When the small figures touch each other, the candle lights on the cake will gradually turn on from the top layer down to the bottom layer. The traditional wedding song will be simultaneously played. 3. When the bride and the groom blow out the candles on the cake, they will listen to their guests messages such as, I wish you life-long happiness.
