Explosamorphosis
Amber Reed, Yasmin Elayat
An explosion that jumps out at you from the wall!

Description
This project is a spatial experience. The concept is a metamorphosis from a cocoon-like existence exploding from the wall to deliver mind boggling thought. It was created as an assemblage project developed and unfolded in Maya, cut on the laser cutter and put together piece by piece with care. This is done to experiment with 3d surfaces and their formation through 2d material. Dimensions are about 2'x2' made from flexible material which is then combined with a reflective material...that is then used to expand the explosion utilizing lights shining through the structure thus intensifying the Explosamorphosis!
Personal Statement
We were interested in an installation that would intrude in your personal space, with a very bold structure, and with a feeling of movement. We also wanted it to be beautiful and mesmerizing in its sheer size and complexity.
Background
This project is an exploration of different assemblage techniques to create a final structure. It was an investigation into a the entire process from designing, modeling, unfolding, to production, then assemblage.
Audience
People of all ages
User Scenario
The installation should attract people to come closer to it and watch the light refractions off the piece. The large size and the complexity of the structure should interest passerby.
Implementation
It is created in Maya using soft bodies, deformities, and particles. Then we unfolded our model, and will laser cut it using either Chip Wood, Mylar or thin Plastic. The pieces will then be reassembled and another layer of material will hold all the assembled arms together for structural stability. We will then add some back lights to the piece.
Conclusion
Manipulation of structures in Maya 3D software. Assemblage. Laser cutting. Creating structural stability from a non-stable structure.
