| a sculptural installation exploring scale, mechanized motion, the electronic image, and collective association. | a landscape-like sculptural form built into a pedestal structure is set against a wall. the form is entirely black except for the top surface which has thousands of tiny points which allow light to escape from the inside of the form. light also spills out of the wall facing side(s). this illuminates the wall space in the immediate area of the piece while silhouetting it. in the pedestal itself there is a small window which reveals the light source as a mass of tangled christmas lights.
above the piece is a tiny video camera which moves very slowly along a track over the surface reversing its direction as it approaches either end of the track.
the resulting image will depict a landscape viewed from an airplane. this video projection is displayed using the square/oval shape and scale of an airplane window
the video camera’s output is projected on an opposite or adjoining wall to where the object is located. the viewer should recognize they are connected but be unable to see both the video and the installation simultaneously. |
