Proof of concept modular video installation that will empower the viewer to create a unique video experience by assembling video objects into a story.
Viewers approach traditional broadcast media with the expectation that the content is linear, static and generally experienced as a passive event. [m]vd – Modular Video Design is the next generation of storytelling. The end product is broadcast independent, non-linear, and modular, requiring the viewer to assemble the video content.

Software designers and engineers have used this concept of plug in play modularity for decades in object oriented programming. Using the same overarching concept, we are interested in creating video modules that have predefined relationships to one another.

Regardless of how the objects are assembled, together they should be able to create a cohesive narrative.

In this particular project we have created 5 video modules that have relationships to one another woven into each story. These threads establish and maintain interconnectivity by utilizing character development and relationship, tone and emotion, technical effects, and narrative logic. With the 25 possible configurations we are expecting a wide variety of viewer responses and perceived resolution.
