| The title, WallCome Lighting, means “wall + welcome + lighting” The idea for this project was initiated from the concept of creating a live and energetic environment for the spiritless and aridity apartment of New York City by using small parts of happiness from our living, and combining them with technology in order to create interactive and bright atmosphere of the building and the around area. | ||
| Background: | The wall of ash color, tightly locked windows, cold apathy, surveillance, and severance… etc., NYC apartment reminds me something like these negative things, and I just wanted to change the words brighter like green, open, energetic, live, and community for the environment of buildings and our neighbor in NYC. This is just a very small step like something that has been motivated and worked by lots of interactive designers, environmental architects and people engaged in a social movement to change this society in a time of transition. Living without humanity is like a shell. If just one light can make one lonely heart warm, I believe that it will be able to affect whole world. I want to try to be a part of motivation of this possibility of new environmental social participation with my project, and that’s the reason why I came up with this idea. | |
| Audience: | The aimed audience for WallCome Lighting is anyone who is living in apartment and wants to be relax and enjoy with their roost, who wants to share their community with their neighbors, who is walking on the street in front of the building and wants to see and feel brighter atmosphere around of the building and the street at the nighttime. | |
| User Scenario: | WallCome Lighting is designed so that the users can experience a possibility of new environmental social participation within the fields of technology. Every window on the front wall of apartment has a thin lighting frame that is connected to each other with sensors that is controlled by main sensor of the entrance of building. When the user opens and closes the entrance door to go their room or to go outside, the main sensor of entrance detects the movement of the door, and then all of the lighting frames of windows start to make a lighting ripple that comes from the center point, the entrance. And also when the user opens or closes the windows on the wall, sensor in the window detects the movement and starts to make another lighting ripple that comes from the window. At the same time, people who are walking on the street in front of building and are living around of the building can see the beautiful lighting show. | |
| Technical System Description: | Actually I'm going to make a small scaled miniature of this project for the show. The lighting ripples are only created at the evening and night time when people are opening and closing the entrance door or windows, which are detected with PIR sensors. The door and all of the windows have their own PIR sensor, microchip and the lighting frame. Each PIR sensor is connected to each of the programmed microchips that control all of the lighting frames. When motion is detected, the microchip starts to control all of the lighting frames to make lighting ripples. | |
| Project References, Research and Literature: | To describe the best atmosphere for this project, the apartment areas in Manhattan and Jersey City are considered. Various shape of movement and color way of the lighting ripple were inspiring aspects for the project. | |
| Conclusions: | Consequently, my project aims to create a live, energetic and aesthetic community environment for spiritless and aridity apartment area of New York City by using technological aspects. People who experience WalCome Lighting will find and feel brighter side of themselves and environment around them. Welcome! Come and feel the brightness and neighborship. | |
