Open House is a mobile real estate application built on the GumSpots™ Mobile Map and Messenger (MMM) framework.
In David Reinfurt's Design & Redesign class we were presented with the idea that "Real Estate has replaced the Weather as the default of polite conversation", according to a friend of his. With this in mind we were asked to design (and redesign... and redesign) a new electronic interface for the New York City real estate market.

Open House is a mobile real estate application that facilitates a free, social, slightly voyeuristic activity. With Open House a user can search New York City to discover apartments available to visit. Open House makes it extremely easy to RSVP directly from your cell-phone. Open House will hopefully increase the popularity of visiting peoples apartments as a social activity.

Background:Weather has been a successful topic of human conversation because everyday, everyone experiences it. Many people talk about Real Estate in NYC but if you are happy in the apartment you call home you have little need to view others apartments. I feel that this is the BEST time to view open houses; you have no stress or preconceptions about finding 'what you want'.
Technical System Description:For the past 2 years I have been developing a new mobile telecommunications business called GumSpots™. GumSpots™, which will be my Thesis, features a patent pending Mobile Map & Messenger (MMM) framework and is based on the Flash Lite player. The Flash Lite Player is available on many of today's popular phones from Nokia, Sony Ericson, and more. The Flash Lite player's adoption rate in the US in 2006 will be dramatic. Open House was a perfect opportunity to create a new mobile application that demonstrates features of the GumSpots™ framework and Flash Lite. I have recently entered GumSpots™ into the Stern business plan competition and Open House is now one of the sample applications.
