warm up the forest with your breath.
candle the forest is a sensor-to-database project which is visualized by Flash. The dark forest, flash movie, is bright up by user’s breath detected by the sensor imbedded in the candle.

As user blows the physical candle, warmth of human's breath melts down and bright up the virtual space in the screen, then user can leave their message and store in the database. These movie and messages can be accessed by the Internet, and can be scan back the past of the forest.

Background:Every human's breath has warmth, humidity as well.
Even an exhalation intended to extinguish a candle light, it has its warmth in it. The humidity sensor can be used as a method of measuring humidity in the air, but can be detector of human breath. This project captures and accumulates the users breathes into database and make visual changes in same time.
Audience:Anybody who have willing to warm up the cold forest. Also who want to know the past and current situation of the forest from remote.
User Scenario:The visitor to the installation will see a candle which is not light up and the screen(monitor) showing dark winter forest behind it.
When he or she come and blow the candle, the screen gets bright. As his/her breath warms up the forest, snow melts down and the forest will be drifted with flower blossoms instead of snowflake.
After he/she left, the movie's temperature goes down, snow falls.
Users who are not in the site, can see the Flash movie from the Internet and scroll the navigation of the movie at same time from remote.
Technical System Description:The humidity sensor embedded in the candle send the value to Basic stamp.
The numbers from BS goes to Processing through serial cable, the Processing sends the numbers to Perl file to write in mySQL. The Flash movie grabs and visualizes the the data from the mySQL by using Perl.
