This project was part of the student-initiated 5in5 Project (http://5-in-5.com). I had obtained the Peggy kit, but was a little upset that it was designed for creating a static sign. Once the LED\’s were soldered, they could never be changed. So instead of creating a single image, I decided purchase 650 female headers so the LED\’s could be changed at will. The result it the Peggy Lite-Brite! The work involved 1502 solder points and about ~7.5 meters of solder…which took about 7 hours to complete.

This service allows ITP Gallery visitors to \”tag\” projects and save information for later. It pulls project information from the ITP Project Database via an RSS feed and returns a text message with the project title, associated student names, and the project\’s link. The information is automatically shortened by limiting the title to 30 characters, replacing full names with first initial+last name, and using http://is.gd to make a small URl. Additionally, a user can pass her email address, and an HTML e-mail is sent with a lot more information. To tag a project, a user simply texts the projectID to the Textmarks service (41411) like this:

itpedia gallery XXXX [email@address.com]

(Remember, the email address is only required if they want to get an email back.)

For example, you can retrieve information about my project, The Naked Pixel, by texting \”itpedia gallery 1988\” or \”itpedia gallery 1988 your_email@address.com\” to 41411.

Vajrapani is an interactive sand table instillation for 1 – 4 persons, which encourages them to experience their individual and group presence as a natural kind of magic. A meditation on fleeting images which parallel the passing of time, like a digital sand mandala, it is the meeting point of a crossroads, and a compass to find our way back – to where we are.

How it works: Have a seat on a cushion. Use your hand to toggle the video triangle in front of you. Triangles only appear if there’s someone on the cushion in front of it. Invite more people to sit with you if you’re all alone. If there are 4 of you together, you form a mandala and timeless counsel of sage advise will emerge. Enjoy the space you cultivate.

Vajrapani is meant to instill a sense of simplicity, wonder and calm in the minds those that experience it. The imagery and interaction chosen represents the immutable and enduring beauty of pure being within each of us as we simultaneously co-create the present moment.

\”Simon Stabs…\” is an interactive game that provides \’harmless\’ platform differs from a typical knife skill game with a real knife. It consists of two gaming platforms with wooden knives as \’switch\’ to press six \’buttons\’ in the space between each finger. The rule of the game is that player should remember sequence of pressing buttons led by flash movie clip on the screen similar to \’simon game\’. First player\’s stabbing several spaces between fingers replays on the other player\’s screen so that he mimics the sequence and add more on it. Then first player should do the same, then back and forth.
Game ends when any mistake occurs.

We should appreciate our friend the computer… it is really good at some things. And computers should respect us because we do some things really well. \”Erkel the circle Judger\” is about computers and people cooperating to create a work of art… the perfect circle. Users will be invited to step up and try to draw a perfect circle, when they are done Erkel will look at their drawing, compute how round it is, and then tag their drawing with a number(via stencils and an airbrush). This process will be completed on a long roll of paper that will be kept and displayed.

I am working to explore the relationship between text and images. I am interested in taking famous works like Romeo and Juliet or war and peace, and translating it to a series of diagrammed sentences that are able to be translated back into the text with careful viewing. I am interested in using user generated photos from flickr to make text into photos. I started looking into this as a tool for live generation of this text from user generated sentences. However, after looking at this from a photographic point of view I think it would be more appropriate as a printed work off screen that can be looked at for longer periods over time.

From the time you wake up in the morning to eating, walking, even sitting at a desk, you are generating energy. What if we could harness and harvest our actions, turn our comings and goings into an unconscious power plant? In my thesis, I am exploring the potential these mundane actions have to produce the electricity for the low power devices that supplement our lifestyles. My first investigation is focused on doors. In an office building of just 2,000 workers (like Tisch) entry doors are opened at least 6 times a day, 12,000 times. I have created a prototype for an add-on for hinged doors that generates electricity each time it is opened and closed. There is a mechanism to store this electricity, measure what is produced over time, save that data on a sever and then be able to dynamically graph and monitor its progress from a website. The stored electricity can then be used for any of the buildings off grid needs, such as emergency sign-age, security cameras or lighting.
