come chat with me

chat with me is a performance/installation piece that consists of two typewriters placed in front of each other and a piece of paper that is a comment on our somehow ridiculous communication habits.

Interactive Documentary

During the last two weeks, I've been going to public spaces with two typewriters and invited people to chat with me using a single piece of paper that comes back and forth between the two typewriters. Communication is made slow and difficult, and somewhat painful and absurd by being mediated by a simple technological device, Chat with me is a comment on how the technology that is available to us to make communication easier and faster is also making it dull and empty and we tend to not sit and talk anymore.

Background
I haven't done much research on the topic, to be honest. It's more about my own experience with communication and the performances in public spaces.

Audience
everyone who talks.

User Scenario
I'm sitting in a table in front of a typewriter. Across my there's another typewriter waiting to be used. A sign saying "come chat with me" invites the audience to come and sit down. I type a welcome message, roll the paper out of my typewriter and give it to the user so he would type a response. It can last as lasts as long as the person resists.
As for the piece as installation, the table with chairs and two typewriters in a corner, and pinned in the wall the collection of chats that I have been having.
