In 1848, the Fox Sisters convinced their parents they could speak to the dead. The fraud resulted in a new religion and transformed the girls into America's first celebrities.
While every true story inhabits a detailed and complicated world, a well-told story conforms to a simple arc. In the Fox Sisters, hyperlinked margin notes provide readers with the option to chase any curious detail down a path of animations, text, and comics. Each step which takes them further from the Foxes, further illuminates 19th century America. In the future, this storytelling form could contain hundreds of linked multimedia stories, all sharing a rich, interconnected world.
