“Inside” is an Interactive video Sculpture Installation that explores the body and mind in the ephemeral moment of creation. This Installation uses a few elements of the body as a site to bring forth the subconscious process of being brought back to this moment of detachment from reality and introspection of the “inside”, the womb.

This installation would not have been possible without the amazing help of Raphael Zollinger

The beauty of communication is listening. What makes a conversation successful is how good at listening we are. The meaning of listening is to convey message that the listener is accepting a speaker\’s feelings as it is, without judgement. Relationship gets yield in the very process of ‘Listening’, because the experience as we accepted as we are.

The Cube is an interactive installation, purpose of the ‘Healing’ and the ‘Listening’. Also, it is a project, deriving from users to do the self-examination. Thus, the ultimate goal of the Cube is to encourage users in order to face and embrace their feelings. In term of this purpose, it is not against with professional therapy, but rather heading the same direction.

Craftic.com is a community where users are able to share how-to guides on making items of their own creation. This site is intended for non commercial use, where users are encouraged to use Creative Commons Licenses to promote the sharing aspect of the site, as well as for others users to evolve their ideas and make them better. Allowing users to reuse each other\’s tutorials will create an open environment where tutorials can be used to create derivative items based off of earlier submissions. The licenses allow users to specify whether or not others are able to make something from a how-to and use it commercially or not.

The website is primarily broken up into categories based on materials. These categories are: fiber, fabric, clay, paper, wood, plastic, glass, and metal. These categories have been created so that the users can break away from the conventional mindset, in which classifications are based on the crafts themselves. With the current influx of reused and recycled items, it is unnecessary to state that any particular item will use a certain material. The evolution of different crafts has blurred the lines of whether or not traditional methods and materials will be used in a project.

Craftic.com is meant to be a flexible medium where users who for example, have a love for creating paper goods, can have a window into several crafts that may use paper. This also helps the avid crafter who has several supplies in stock but does not have ideas of what to do with them. Therefore, a user with a large supply of fabric can find a tutorial where fabric has been used in both quilting, dressmaking and even an installation. The number of crafts isn\’t necessary, it is what is used to make something that is of importance. Through this method, craftic.com will encompass a wide variety of crafts such as paperwork, needlework, fiber arts and metalwork.

Through the user generated community construction, users can learn about other crafters who are interested in making things out of the same materials as they are. This should encourage collaboration and communication, where users are seeking out knowledge from each other and will evolve as artists and craftspeople together. When a user is searching for a new project, the user can gain knowledge about the maker, the craft and other aspects of maker culture.

The website is intended for both the avid crafter as well as the supporter of handmade goods. Through seeing the tutorials, users can see what work goes on behind a handmade item in which they might be interested in purchasing. Now that the user has seen who the crafter is behind the scenes, what their process is, what their expertise and approximate time and cost it took to make the item, a regular browser can have more appreciation for a handmade item. In this regard, the site does promote the commercial interests of tutorial submitters who have shops. If a user is not interested in following the tutorial and making the item, the user has the option of purchasing the finished item from a craftsperson\’s shop.

In the future, there will be a voting feature where users can delineate between popular and unpopular how-tos. The voting will be based on the preferences of the user base. This voting system will provide more exposure to items that are universally accepted by the community. Rankings will also be grouped by the quality of the tutorial.

StatueMod.org is a comprehensive site that aims to give the Institute for Statue Modification a home on the Internet. Through the website the Institute can better provide resources to citizens across the country interested in statue modification as a revolutionary practice. What’s more, the website serves as a place for participation. In addition to learning about statue modifications in recent history, people can search and contribute to an open catalogue of statues across the United States today in need of modification, and imagine new possible statues for tomorrow.

The Institute for Statue Modification is dedicated to statue modification and its applications for revolutionary change. The Institute aims to investigate where popular opinion and the decorative elements of the urban landscape diverge. At the foundation of this investigation are several key questions: Whom do we choose to monumentalize and why? How do we recontextualize statues, monuments, and other fixtures in urban space when cultural attitudes toward history change? How can we collaboratively enact this process of recontextualization? How does shifting the balance of power in statue and monument representation translate to a political shift in power?

StatueMod.org was created to help the Institute for Statue Modification achieve its mission. The website is divided into three sections. The first is a research center where people can read and submit articles and papers about statue modification. The research center also serves as a news source for statue modification related current events. The second is a citizen-contributed open catalogue called the StatueWiki, where people can add or edit entries of statues in need of modification. The third is the StatueLabs, a place to explore ideas for modified or new statues.

Sound and the City is a Three Dimensional visualization of sound taken from particular locations in a given city. My goal is to showcase an alternative picture, if not a narrative, of a chosen location in a city, capsule-ing/freezing those sonic moments over time. Moments we often take for granted because everyday life rushes by – at least in some places and with some people.
The test location for my thesis is Union Square NYC where I sampled 10 minutes of sound, every hour on the hour during a period of 24 hours, between the hours of 6:00 pm to 5:10 pm.

In my project, aimed at teenage girls, I build a series of animated movies for mobile phones. The movies address issues that women in this age face. Body image, self-knowledge and sexuality. The users download a flash file or receive it via MMS. They need to be 4 players, each of them having a quarter of the full image on their screen. When four girls hold their mobile phones up simultaneously they can watch the whole piece together. Their separate screens function as one larger screen synchronized via bluetooth. It involves the challenge to bring a group together and encourages dialog amongst the users. At the end of each animation they are offered to choose between two options of how the story will go on. Right after voting for the next part they continue watching the clip on their phone.

Again, each of them has only one part of the animation, they have to find the right positioning of the phones similar to a puzzle. They have to stand close and find the right angle between the phones in order to see the complete animation. The sound of each mobile phone speaker will contribute differently to the soundscape of the animation. The shape of the phones aligning creates a setting that encourages conversation.
The narration\’s content evolves from the adventures of a girl called “Lu”, the heroine of the story, dealing with specific challenges she is confronted with. Everytime she has to take a hard decision the users have to vote on what she should do. Her story will be told in several episodes.

Animal Ride is an interactive game that is played within a 3D multi-sensor interface called ToddlePuff. The interface surrounds the player and encourages full body motion. It requires spatial orientation, coordination and speed. It uses one screen and two speakers to create an immersed experience.
The interface acts as a \”train\”. The screen is the \”side window\” to the outside view. The train moves between stations. At each stop there is an animal that the child can interact with. There are 3 games that suite different age ranges:

\”Wholly\” (age 2-3):
The game starts with a cow song. After a short introduction, the child is encouraged to hit the buttons that surround him to move the cow on the screen. The cow leaves footstep marks on the grass, letting the child draw an image.

\”Pengu\” (age 3 and up):
The game starts with a penguin song. After a short introduction, the child is encouraged to hit the buttons that surround her to help the penguin catch the fish. This can be achieved by hitting the appropriate button at a certain time. The game develops coordination and offers different speed levels.

3Dance (age 5 and up):
This is a dancing game. The child learns a sequence of moves that involve touching different buttons inside the 3D interface. Then he is asked to repeat the movements to the sound of a song.

The credits, currently the most valuable of their kind in the country, have been successful enough to propel Louisiana to third, behind NY and L.A., in total productions. My goal is to help develop recent additional tax credits extended to digital and interactive media into a rival success.
