Plott is a platform for experiencing location based stories. For Plott, this is a narrative tied to an outdoor place, such as a building, park or street intersection. Many of these places have a history to them that are unknown to passers by. Conversely, many times we read stories without experiencing the physical environment that they were set in. Plott seeks to bridge this gap through two channels. Primarily it provides on-site, on-demand stories to the user’s mobile phone while they are at the story location. These stories are delivered in the form of audio and images, allowing the user to be immersed and explore the physical environment while being told the narrative. Alternatively it provides a browser-based experience of the physical environment using Google Street View technology. Google provides a database of compelling panoramic street level imagery, which can be virtually explored by using mouse and keyboard actions. This gives the user freedom to navigate through the virtual street environment while still experiencing the audio. Not only is Plott a platform for experiencing content, it is also a platform for generating content. Plott provides online tools to record audio and images, as well as geo-tag them with locations. This enables authors to record their own location-based stories and then share them through the same physical and virtual channels of distribution.

WikiPaths is a hyperlink scavenger hunt game played on Wikipedia.org in which players try to find the shortest path between two, seemingly unconnected, encyclopedic entries. WikiPaths is not a separate website, but rather a casual game superimposed on Wikipedia itself. The game is written in JavaScript and runs as a Greasemonkey Firefox Add-on, allowing users to start a new game at their leisure as they also browse the encyclopedia. WikiPaths fuses normal browsing behavior with casual gaming, and explores how re-contextualizing an existing site can yield vital information about the connectivity of information and how people navigate information space.

My project description is a work in progress and will be finished in August.

My project will focus on the concept of an interactive space with an “instant” scene as created through traditional Eastern thought and point of view, the notion of “emptiness” and color in painting, and Korean architecture.

For the content of my project, I turned to a personal experience: my various memories and perceptions of New York City’s famous Times Square.

The Television Industry is finally coming to terms with the fact that TV, as a business model, is broken. Long-Term Relationship Television (LTR-TV) is a report/manifesto for the TV industry to push them to transform ad-supported television into a relationship-based economy. Through an intensive study of the television landscape, industry practices, and audience behavior, I have developed these recommendations for re-imagining the interactions and relationships between industry, advertisers, and audiences. These practices and precautions are meant to help ensure that, in this increasingly treacherous entertainment terrain, the medium of Television survives in the future.

Enjoy my view is a set of interventions and experiments in urban objects that offer an opportunity for new views and new experiences in the city.
The project reflects on the current urban computing environment through a process of researching and designing four interventions/experiments: a phone booth that “teletransports” you sonically to a peaceful/relaxing location; a bench that invites you to sit down and enjoy the view; manholes covers that try to make you aware of the city ; a bus stop with a periscope that let you peep in to see if the bus is coming or just explore another view of your surroundings.

Video as Self Portrait is a series of three interactive video sculptures that use video as well as sensors to detect the viewer’s presence and affect the video. Each sculpture represents a different aspect of my personality using video, performance, computer code, sensors, projections, audio, or knitted fabric.

Untitled 1: a Self‑portrait represents the conflict between my desire to be an artist and my inclination to hide and shun the spotlight. Untitled 2: a Self‑portrait, is a performance piece that uses video footage of my family members projected onto my face to represent the role these relationships play in my life and their affect on who I am as a person. My third self‑portrait, titled Untitled 3: a Self‑portrait, is a computer program created in Processing. A particle system fills the screen with objects that paint the screen with either the color from the live video or the static image in the background. When the viewer approaches the screen a camera detects their silhouette and reveals my image within their outline. The intention is to represent my desire for external validation.
