Maximus is envisioned as a pet robotic table lamp with a personality. It retains the same form as that of a standard table lamp, but mimics human behavior and emotions. Not only does Maximus react to its surroundings, but also reflects on its reactions and changes behavior. The main aim of this project was to inject life into the everyday inanimate objects that surround us. Table lamp being a close personal object allows for such an opportunity.

Plott is a platform for experiencing location based stories. For Plott, this is a narrative tied to an outdoor place, such as a building, park or street intersection. Many of these places have a history to them that are unknown to passers by. Conversely, many times we read stories without experiencing the physical environment that they were set in. Plott seeks to bridge this gap through two channels. Primarily it provides on-site, on-demand stories to the user’s mobile phone while they are at the story location. These stories are delivered in the form of audio and images, allowing the user to be immersed and explore the physical environment while being told the narrative. Alternatively it provides a browser-based experience of the physical environment using Google Street View technology. Google provides a database of compelling panoramic street level imagery, which can be virtually explored by using mouse and keyboard actions. This gives the user freedom to navigate through the virtual street environment while still experiencing the audio. Not only is Plott a platform for experiencing content, it is also a platform for generating content. Plott provides online tools to record audio and images, as well as geo-tag them with locations. This enables authors to record their own location-based stories and then share them through the same physical and virtual channels of distribution.

As with many young non-profit organizations, StreetWise has encountered difficulties obtaining publicity and generating a consistent source of revenue. I identified three seminal goals to aid StreetWise in accomplishing its mission: to develop a website with written and photographic documentation of the organization to promote StreetWise as well as eventually accept online donations; to obtain 501(c)3 status as a non-profit organization in the United States; and to spearhead new fundraising campaigns to financially support StreetWise.

My idea is to create the visualization that is integrated with the interaction of the audience. Visual Piano is to create the visual images that is synchronized with music. Initially, I hoped to link the images to live music on a piano keyboard. The colors, shapes and sounds would all interact with each other. Different portions of the keyboard would control what patterns and colors emerged. The technical demands of this are quite intimidated. However, there are so many variations possible on a piano keyboard. So I decided to link the visuals to a single piece of music.
Before you play the piano you can choose your favorite seasons. Then you can start to play it.

Being raised as a Baha’i half-Iranian woman in an Evangelical Texan suburb created a sense of disassociation from and confusion about my cultural heritage and identity. “You’re not brown, just tan,” investigates these perceptions of cultural heritage through exploring childhood memories, family legacy, and media imagery. The project proposes new forms of hybridity via Iranian memory objects and videos created out of the material of the Texan suburbs where I grew up. These components will manifest in a comprehensive multimedia installation, recreating an imagined Iranian/suburban home space. The sculptures in the space are suburban/Iranian mash-up memory objects: a Persian rug made of suburban couch upholstery, roses made of Christmas wrapping paper, a backgammon board made from my childhood Monopoly board, and calligraphy designed using kid’s Crayola markers. I also have created a series of videos to screen in the space on a television set I am constructing. These videos are designed in different television styles (cooking show, horror movie trailer, music video) for consumption in the medium I consumed while shaping my identity.
