Phin Barnes from First Round Capital is coming to ITP to talk about a new venture fund specifically targeting student projects and companies in NY. They are looking to hire a team of students to form the investment team that will be responsible for the disbursement of $500k.
Dorm Room Fund is a new venture fund with an all-student investment team that invests in student-run companies. First Round Capital chooses the investment team, students source and make final investment decisions.
We believe in student entrepreneurs. Warby Parker, Invite Media, Birchbox, Dropbox and many more companies were all started when the founders were still in “dorm rooms” and Dorm Room Fund hopes to support the next wave of companies started on campus.
The average Dorm Room Fund investment is $20,000 and Dorm Room Fund portfolio companies receive mentorship and guidance from First Round as well as successful alumni entrepreneurs through our “Dorm Room Fund RA” program.
Dorm Room Fund is currently launched in Philadelphia with a student investment team from UPenn and Drexel and we are excited to make New York the next city with students from Cornell Tech Campus, NYU, Columbia and Princeton.
