ITP alum Younghui Kim will present her recent work in the field of wearable technology art, where she has combined physical computing with soft textile design to create a new media platform for body language. Her most current project, “Gravity of Light,” is a 3D printed hat that displays the wearer’s natural head movements through embedded light pixels on the smart-textile’s surface. Her wearable technology art projects have been presented in numerous exhibitions worldwide such as Emerging Technologies Gallery at SIGGRAPH 2004, Gwangju International Design Biennale 2005, Future Fashion 2006, Social Fabrics 2008, Leonardo Journal, HCI 2010, DALSMA 2011 and ISEA 2011. Younghui is from New York and has joined Hongik University as an assistant professor since 2007 and has been teaching and researching digital media art. She is also a participating researcher at the WCU Research program funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology through the National Research Foundation of Korea (R32-20067). She is currently a visiting fellow at Cornell University.
