ITP Alum on Amelia Earhart Expedition

From ITP Alumnus, William O’Halloran

On Tuesday 03JUL, I will set sail on the University of Hawaii Research Vessel Ka`imikai-o-Kanaloa (R/V K-O-K) for the Kiribati Islands as part of an expedition to locate the Lockheed Electra 10E aircraft that Amelia Earhart was flying on her fateful trip around the globe exactly 75 years ago.

We are taking one of our deep ocean search / survey vehicles with the goal of searching an area that is believed to be a very likely spot where the plane may have sunk.

This website has lots of details about the expedition and the people we are working for:

The entire event is being filmed by the Discovery channel, so I can’t say too much about it due to media rights. What I can say is that we have a good crew and some pretty high tech gear, so we are doing our best to stack the deck in our favor.
