Chicago Cultural Center (Chicago, IL)
After performing my speaker feedback instruments at the Sónar festival in Barcelona this past summer, I am thrilled to return to the Sónar stage in Chicago this week. The three day long festival runs Thursday through Saturday at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and Chicago Cultural Center with a fantastic line up of performers.
“Since 1994, thousands have flocked to Barcelona’s annual Sónar Festival to witness its groundbreaking assemblage of innovators in music and multimedia. And now, after successful turns in New York and D.C., it’s bringing the spectacle our way with a series of film screenings, audiovisual performances and concerts that span electronic, post-rock and experimental (and everything in between). Some of the diverse cast of artists revealed on the initial lineup card includeMartyn, The Slew, Oval, Nosaj Thing and experimental acts like Lesley Flanigan, Nicolas Bernier + Martin Messier: La Chambre des Machines and Ben Frost.” – Time Out Chicago
Europe Summer Tour 2010
Dublin, Belfast, Barcelona, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam
This summer, I performed my speaker feedback instruments at a number of galleries, festivals and venues around Europe including Monster Truck Gallery (Dublin), Sónar (Barceona), Rhiz (Vienna), .HBC (Berlin), STEIM (Amsterdam) and Roodkapje (Rotterdam). I had the pleasure of sharing many of these events with performing and visual artists including Thomas Grill, Wouter Jaspers, Pierre Bastien, Sharon Phelan, Joan Healy, Colm Clarke, Markus Hoffmann & Martin Schied, Gregory Taylor & Jeff Kaiser, and Peter Kutin. In addition to performances, I also presented artist talks and workshop seminars at Digital Art Studios (Belfast) and Metalab (Vienna), and completed an artist residency at WORM in Rotterdam.
Artist in Residence
WORM is a Rotterdam-based media studio that specializes in film, sound and digital arts. Along with its production facilities, WORM also houses a very popular concert venue, movie theater and shop, and hosts regular advanced learning workshops. Basically, this place has it all. As their resident artist in August, I worked on a new series of recordings within their huge (and very old) attic space. These new recordings will be made available online for download in October.
