SPECIAL EVENT: Gideon Obarzanek, Mortal Engine at BAM
|December 14, 2009|
|6:30 pm||to||8:00 pm|
Gideon Obarzanek is a choreographer and the Artistic Director of Chunky Move, an Australian based contemporary dance company, which is currently performing one of Gideon’s works, Mortal Engine, at BAM as part of the 2009 Next Wave Festival. Mortal Engine portrays a shimmering, ever-shifting world as the human figure metamorphoses into light, image, and sound, and back again. Obarzanek’s work, which he describes as “choreographing with light,” are being performed in venues around the globe, including the U.K, Europe, Asia and the Americas. While still grounded in a vigorous embrace of technology, lights, lasers, and shadow, the stage for Obarzanek’s work has expanded in several senses of the word—he is now working on film and in site-specific installations to further push the boundaries of performance.
