Student Organized Speaker Series: MoMA/Thinking Machine
| November 18, 2010 | ||

Barbra Mack (a student at ITP) has completed some research in partnership with MoMA, on the computer-based art work Thinking Machine 4 (a work by Martin Wattenberg that is part of MoMA’s collection). As part of this research, she will host an event at ITP in which Thinking Machine 4 will be recompiled for 4 different hardware/OS setups. The research has been done to investigate the feasibility of recompiling source code for computer-based works of art that a museum has the source code as a means of conservation, instead of running emulators (which is currently considered the de facto conservation strategy for most computer-based works). Conservators and curators from MoMA, other professionals from the field, and ITP students will be invited to compare and contrast the 4 setups, and provide feedback about the viability of re-compilation of source code as a conservation strategy. Non-ITP attenders are welcome. They are asked to RSVP to blmack@gmail.com.
