Bucky Thoughts
Lags in nature from conception to completion - How much our society has compressed this lag time in our production of technology.
Emergence through emergency – how much development of our technology has occurred during wartime. This then sets and determines the nature and course of technological development. We’re really good and inventing weapons, less so at inventing means of utilizing passive solar for energy.
Technical “know-how” as property. Knowledge as property.
Technological development as a wave of events, not discrete objects. These objects we create are actually momentary snapshots of the evolution of our imaginations and knowledge, they reflect our thoughts and visions at a given moment of time.
The rectangle and the sine wave. How digitally we can only describe the world in squares, since binary can only give me points along that wave. This approximates the original sine wave to a degree that can surpass our ability to tell the difference, depending on the number of points I can position (essentially the sampling rate). However, it doesn’t really work in the way that the universe works. Which makes me wonder: maybe we’re missing something here. Incredible things have been done with analog to digital data and back again – it is what’s made the technological and communication revolutions possible. But I wonder if we could build a computer that was designed from the ground up to operate on the principles of waves, instead of rectangles. Also, with a binary system I describe all data with a 1 or a 0. Yet our DNA describes each gene with patterns of four. So our current digital models essentially exist in two-code dimension, while we ourselves exist in a four dimensional code.
Human thought as a wave form. When meditating, the session is called to it’s beginning and ending by the ringing of a bell or a strike of a gong. The sound resonates and you can feel it radiating outward into space. Just so, our actions, words and thoughts resonate outward – we are all sending and receiving wave forms. In this way, we can understand that my actions, words and thoughts today will still be resonating in the world tomorrow, and the next day, traveling outwards. Such an idea then gives us a sense of how to structure our living in accordance with a common morality. I would not say an unkind word to a friend, and neither would I say such a word about that friend were she not in the room. Those waves will reach her, they will, in some small way, be felt.
